Alanis Morissette was on You Can’t Do That On Television as a kid. In her brief tenure on there, she got pied once and slimed once. Of course, she was a kid then so I can’t post that here.
…That would make a pretty crappy Music Monday, though. That’s why I’m glad that she got into music and with it, started to make music videos. While my personal favourite Alanis song (“You Oughta Know”, which is pure bile in music form in the best way possible) doesn’t have any mess in its video, “You Learn” does. Specifically, it has a pie fight between Alanis and some of her friends, starting at about 2:55.
And you really do learn – how many of you knew my favourite Alanis Morissette song?
The story of Alanis’s musical career is quite intriguing to me – a lot of artists start in rock or alternative and adapt a more mainstream sound when they get popular. Alanis kind of went the opposite way, in that she only became particularly successful when she stopped making bubblegum pop. And quite rightly too, I think, not just because of my own bias towards rock.
