The year is 2014 With viewer numbers drastically falling following an oversaturation of “reality TV” shows, MTV decided that something new needed to be made and broadcast to get the viewing public back. Eventually it was decided that MTV should begin to go back to what it originally stood for – Music TV. As well as showing more videos, they would also show programmes related to music. One of these was going to be a game show.
Each week, two teams of four music-related celebrities (singers/musicians, TV presenters, talent show judges etc.) would go up against each other in a series of gunge-filled games in order to raise money for a charity of their choice. The budgets they had in mind were huge, but with viewers at an all time low, going broke would be inevitable without change anyway.
That wasn’t all, though. As well as the eight contestants, each episode would have a guest presenter. It worked well for panel shows like Have I Got News For You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks, plus it gave them a chance to show more people in the gunge.
With sports and Robot Wars legend Johnathan Pearce commentating, the new show was born. This is Top of the Slops.
